Improv Manifesto -Window to the Soul

Window to the soul My name is Niamh Keating and I am a ninth-grade student at Cheshire Academy. I have lived all around the world and I really enjoy art. This piece is supposed to represent the view of different people. The squares are representative of windows, differently colored and sized because everyone sees things differently. I titled this piece “Window to the Soul” because there is a saying that ‘your eyes are the window to your soul’. This piece is special to me because I've always had trouble drawing eyes, but I feel like I finally got it right this time. This is a mixed media piece of artwork. In this piece, I used watercolor, graphite pencils, and pages from a book. I decided to make the quotes from the pages in the book actually mean something instead of putting random words there. I felt like the quotes draw the audience in rather than just random words. I chose to make all the watercolor squares differently shaped and colored because everyone has a different take on things, and there's always more than one side to the story. This piece I feel summarizes my time in my ‘Improv and Creativity’ class this semester. the different views represent group work, and tell everyone has their own ideas. I chose to only do squares to represent the similarity between every human being. Everyone is the same, but different. We are all human but we all have our own ideas and our own lives. This piece represents the similarity and differences between humans.

Quotes: “Fact of life” This quote represents acceptance. Acceptance can be difficult, therefore these three simple words can be very frustrating at times. “Resisted” History is full of people resisting. This quote represents a person’s ancestry. “Tell a certain story… that paints you as the hero… tell(s) you you’re right” This quote represents a person’s ego. Everyone has an ego, big or small. “Heroes” This quote represents opinion and greed. Everyone wants to be a hero. Heroes save the world. “Across academia... countless thinkers” This quote represents the human species ability to grow and learn. How there are great minds on this earth and that is how we have come so far from where we started. “Full circle” This quote represents the cycle of life. Everything is constantly growing and changing. “Alive” This quote speaks for itself. If you are reading this you're most likely alive. This is something we share in common with every other human being on our planet right now. this quote is supposed to represent the similarity between all living things. “Their experience… weakness, love” This quote represents human emotion. Everyone experiences emotion. This is a similarity between the human race. “Face of the forest. Let’s learn all there is. The root. The fruit. Over time… changing.” This quote represents nature in relation to humans. Humans would not exist without nature, so nature is extremely important.
